Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant - Cape Town Central - Western Cape

Position: Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant

Location: Hybrid (4 days in-office, 1 day remote)
Reporting to: Finance Director
Job Overview:Our client, a leading company in the insurance industry, is seeking a Bookkeeper or Junior Accountant to join their dynamic finance team. This role is ideal for a young, energetic, and self-motivated professional who is eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate financial records and transactions
• Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR)
• Reconcile bank statements, ledgers, and accounts
• Prepare financial reports for management review
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
• Work closely with the Finance Director and support in budgeting and forecasting
• Utilize Pastel Accounting Software for daily bookkeeping tasks
• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth financial operations
• Stay up to date with insurance industry financial regulations (beneficial but not mandatory)

Requirements:

• Education:
  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory)
• Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Bookkeeper or Junior Accountant
  • Experience in the insurance industry (advantageous)
  • Pastel experience is a must
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Proficiency in Pastel Accounting Software
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of accuracy and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
