      Junior Electrical and Mechanical Technician

      Main job purposes

      To perform checks, tests, and maintenance on all electrical and mechanical equipment and facilities. The junior electrical and mechanical technician is responsible for ensuring the company complies fully with its contractual obligations by maintaining fully functional equipment and facilities. This role includes record-keeping of all maintenance and reporting any serious or malicious damage to the superior in a timely manner.

      Employment specification

      Education and experience (minimum requirements)





          • School: Minimum Grade 12 certificate







          • Qualifications: National diploma or certificate in electrical engineering







          • Experience: At least three years of related experience





      Job-related requirements





          • Valid, unendorsed Code 08 driver’s licence







          • Knowledgeable in processes and rules, particularly the MIS electronic toll collection system







          • Understanding of procedures such as:




                • Environmental







                • Health and safety







                • Compliance







                • Good housekeeping practices







                • Procedure manuals












          • Understanding of supervisory responsibilities/functions





      Required competencies





          • Fluency in English







          • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)







          • Strong interpersonal relationship skills







          • Self-management capabilities







          • Expert knowledge of:




                • Electromechanical equipment







                • Electrical installations







                • Generators and UPS systems







                • Access control systems







                • CCTV systems












          • Ability to plan and follow through on maintenance activities







          • Basic computer literacy





      Physical demands and work environment





          • Daily physical demands include working on routes, inside and outside buildings, and on ladders.







          • Driving a motor vehicle on public roads is required.







          • Overtime and standby duties are regularly expected.







          • Work environments include highways, toll roads, office buildings, and external premises.





      Essential duties and responsibilities





          • Maintain toll plaza electrical and mechanical equipment.







          • Maintain electrical reticulation systems, including DBs, low-voltage cabling, wiring, earthing, socket outlets, switches, and power skirting.







          • Maintain lighting installations such as area lighting, canopy lighting, booth lighting, fog lights, and flashing beacons.







          • Perform general handyman maintenance, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, and painting tasks.







          • Conduct daily and monthly inspections and preventative maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, access control, and CCTV equipment.







          • Perform fault finding, dismantle equipment for repair, and reassemble when required.







          • Analyse drawings, and align and calibrate machinery for safe operation.







          • Repair malfunctioning equipment and buildings as outlined in the maintenance manual.







          • Report all incidents and keep records of all inspections.







          • Ensure tools are maintained in good working order.







          • Comply with all health, safety, and security policies.







          • Ensure equipment functionality to maximise uptime.





      Supervision of subcontractors





          • Ensure the scope of work is correct and quality standards are met.







          • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and policies.







          • Instruct or refuse subcontractors’ access in cases of sub-standard work or non-compliance.
