Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the Supervisor: Post-production.

Job purpose

The video editor assembles all news stories, current affairs, and long-form programming content for the channel. Following prescribed editorial briefs to best meet the objective of each story

Key responsibilities

• Report directly to the post-production supervisor
• Take on brief for every edit with a clear understanding of delivery objective
• Go through all footage to plan out the edit accordingly
• Edit and manipulate raw footage together with overlay visuals and images to assemble the package/programme/byte as per the editorial brief
• View your own work before calling for both content and technical quality control (QC)
• Follow the departmental standard operating procedures for saving and storing packages and footage
• Communicate all badly shot footage to the post-production coordinator for escalation
• Ensure adherence to the company-stipulated shift roster
• Manage time on each edit to efficiently work through multiple stories within a shift
• Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximise efficiency

Requirements

• Matric plus a relevant certificate/diploma/degree in a field related to television production.
• A minimum of three years of experience in a video editing role.
• Solid experience with digital technology and editing software (i.e., Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects)
• Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio
• Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Creative mind and storytelling skills
• Ability to follow instructions and remain professional under pressure.
• Sound troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and stay calm when things go wrong.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
