Maintenance Technician

Sydsen Recruit is seeking a Maintenance Technician for a large-scale farming enterprise in George, Western Cape. The ideal candidate must have basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills, along with strong leadership abilities to manage a team and ensure smooth farm operations. This role requires hands-on maintenance work, problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Facility & Equipment Maintenance

• Oversee maintenance and repairs of greenhouses, shade houses, roads, fences, and farm facilities.
• Implement a preventative maintenance plan to ensure all equipment remains in optimal condition.
• Conduct regular inspections and fault-finding to proactively address maintenance issues.
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs as needed.

2. Team Supervision & Training

• Lead and manage a team of maintenance staff, ensuring work is completed to a high standard.
• Develop work schedules, delegate tasks, and oversee daily operations.
• Provide training and mentorship to ensure team efficiency.

3. Supplier & Contractor Coordination

• Coordinate with external contractors for specialised maintenance and repair work.
• Source and negotiate with suppliers for spare parts, tools, and materials.
• Ensure external work is completed within budget and to required standards.

4. Budget & Inventory Control

• Manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
• Maintain an inventory of essential maintenance supplies, ensuring timely restocking.
• Monitor and report on maintenance costs and budget adherence.

5. Compliance & Reporting

• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and completed repairs.
• Prepare reports on facility conditions, maintenance needs, and budget status.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant technical field
• Minimum 2 -3 years’ experience in facility maintenance, preferably in agriculture
• Basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills
• Valid driver’s licence (Code 8)
