A Tally Clerk is responsible for overseeing and documenting the movement of goods in and out of a warehouse, port, or storage facility. The role primarily involves recording quantities, verifying shipment details, and ensuring that all goods are accurately accounted for during loading, unloading, or storage processes. The duties and responsibilities as detailed above may change and evolve over time. You may therefore be expected to perform duties outside of this current scope from time to time and or on an adhoc basis.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory tracking:
- Record the count and condition of incoming products, packaging, and shipments;
- Verify the accuracy of shipping orders and received goods against the corresponding paperwork; and
- Report discrepancies or issues to the Warehouse Supervisor or management.
- Input data into inventory management systems accurately and efficiently;
- Maintain organised records of inventory transactions, including receipts, inspections, and shipments; and
- Generate and maintain reports related to inventory levels, shortages, and damages.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with warehouse staff, including forklift operators and shipping/receiving personnel, to coordinate the movement of goods; and
- Assist in conducting inventory audits and cycle counts to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Inspect goods upon arrival for damage or discrepancies and take appropriate action as necessary; and
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies regarding inventory handling.
- Effectively communicate with other team members about inventory status, potential issues, and operational needs; and
- Provide support during the packing and shipping process, ensuring that orders are filled correctly and on time.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in inventory management and reporting; and
- Participate in training sessions and continuous education to enhance skills and knowledge related to warehouse operations.

- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures as required by the warehouse environment
- Minimum Matric
- Previous work experience
- Previous experience in a similar industry with one to three years of experience
