Snr Lecturer - Stage Acting

AFDA is inviting applications for the position of senior lecturer in stage acting in live performance, Cape Town campus.

Roles and responsibilities

• Lecturing second and third year degree academic content;
• Contributing to research studies programme; 
• Teaching second and third discipline: Stage acting;
• Directing theatre productions;
• Assessing second and third students in both academic and practical work;
• Preparing and conducting term assessments;
• Administration of second and third year programme: timetabling, managing facilities, monitoring student progress, facilitation of interface with other disciplines;
• Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings; 
• Preparing content and lesson plans according to the AFDA acting curriculum and the broader acting course;
• Liaising with industry as appropriate;
• Contributing to campus activities, e.g. open days.

Key competencies 

• Teaching acting; an understanding of methodology for all three mediums: stage, film and television would be hugely beneficial
• Facilitating and/or directing student productions
• Related teaching skills in voice, voice over, movement or improvisation (beneficial)
• Related theatre production skills: design, lighting, stage management (beneficial)
• Experience of management of courses and projects
• Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom
• Professional experience

Selection criteria

• Hons or MA
• Work experience in tertiary education
• Industry and / or knowledge of the stage/performance and/or film/television industries
