74 Top Achiever award certificates were presented to students who attained a minimum aggregate of 75%. New to the list of awards this year was the Pre-Vocational Learning Programme, which was awarded to Ms Limakatso Makolometse who achieved an 87% aggregate. This pilot programme was created as a bridge for students who have a minimum Grade 9 pass and who do not meet the entrance criteria for mainstream programmes offered at the College. Special acknowledgment was given to Mr Silveano Isadore Jacobs, N1 Motors Engineering student who maintained a 95% aggregate, received four subject distinctions of which he attained a 100% pass for English, Maths and Science. A record number of students were recognised as Diploma Graduates, having met all the academic and workplace training required to qualify for the National Diploma.
Through the generous sponsorship of Cape Book and College Suppliers and ABSA bank, prizes were awarded to the exit level Top Achievers.

Acting Principal, Ms Karin Hendricks proudly stated in her opening statement “False Bay TVET College remains one of the top performing colleges in the country. Our students are the purpose and reason for the existence of our college. While we immensely proud of our student achievements, we also want to acknowledge the dedication hard work and commitment of our staff members who drive and support student success.”
Each year, a special award is bestowed upon one top performing student, selected by the college Principal. This year, it was awarded to a student who not only demonstrated outstanding academic achievements but who is actively involved in her community.
The most prestigious CEO/Principal’s award winner, Ms Pamela Jako, started her journey with the College in 2017 registering for the NC(V) Office Administration programme. Pam has attained 12 distinctions out of 14 subjects completed. She has been actively involved on the Student Representative Council since 2017 and now occupies the role of SRC President. Always giving more of herself, Pam is a MOT Youth Motivator and freely shares of herself to help others make better life decision. Hardworking, loyal and very committed, she is a great role model for our student community. Pam said “I am very grateful that all my efforts were acknowledged and I feel motivated to do more for those who need help. I don’t do it for the praise, it makes me feel good. I love people and to see the impact I can have on someone life is very rewarding. With the help of the college this year, we have created a good relationship with Masicorp, Living Hope and the Ward 69 Councillor who assisted us with sponsorship to aid local community disasters like the fire victims of Masiphumelele and Houtbay in 2017."
Special guest’s speaker Mr Simon Ekin, MOT Brand Ambassador and professional public speaker delivered a humorous, thought provoking address. The theme spoke to courage, resilience and being true to who you are, without fear. He closed his address serenading the audience with a verse from Redemption Song by the late Bob Marley, “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves free our minds. Have no fear for atomic energy, cause none of them can stop the time”. Guests swayed to the smooth sounds of a duet sung by, Mr Lynton Joseph, Fish Hoek Campus Administrator and Mr Dumisani Lutweyi, Student Support and Development Services Manager as they entertained guests with an original compilation titled “Well Done”. The lyrics were expressive of the awards ceremony and they received a standing ovation for their performance. They were accompanied by a Westlake Student on the saxophone. This is yet another example of the tremendous talent and ability that exists within the college. An ex-student, Nathan Hendricks also delivered a musical item that was inspiring.
This annual occurrence brings together the proud parents, academic staff, sponsors, industry partners and students to celebrate the success of the top performing students, graduates and college academic staff. This wonderful ceremony is an opportunity for us to celebrate our college achievements and is an affirmation of our vision to be the most successful TVET College in the country.
