Scan’s managing director, Justin Hawes, is delighted with the nomination: “Scan has been committed to corporate social investment since its inception in 1996 and it is great to be acknowledged in this way.”
Scan’s CSI initiatives include: a Learnership programme; a Dedicated Giving programme; a Skills Transfer programme in its manufacturing operation; and a Subcontracted Drivers programme.
Scan is proud that, in spite of being a relatively small company, it has had a profound impact on the quality of life of a number of individuals, their families and, in turn, their communities.
Hawes concludes: “It’s the responsibility of all business, big and small, to make some contribution to empowering disadvantaged communities, in whatever way they can.”
The Homegrown Awards winners will be announced at a gala event on 24 May 2007.
