Steve Taylor
With experience in both the public and private sectors of health Dr Taylor is poised to make a major contribution to the work and the mission of COHSASA. He has spent 22 years working for a private hospital group and is currently the Executive Group Medical Director for Life Healthcare.
COHSASA's mission is to assist healthcare facilities in Africa provide safe, excellent care to their patients through the application of quality improvement methods, adverse event monitoring and international standards.
The council has established strong links with the National Department of Health, the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC), the World Health Organisation, the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) and the majority of external evaluation bodies around the world.
COHSASA has uninterruptedly maintained its own international accreditation with ISQua since 2002 and has three sets of standards accredited with this global authority.
Dr Taylor is passionate about safe clinical outcomes and has been deeply involved in managing all aspects of a broad range and large number of healthcare facilities and their personnel.
"With the changing landscape of the health structure in South Africa, the assurance of quality in all facilities is becoming essential. COHSASA is ideally placed to play an important role in both the public and private sectors. As a board member I would like to assist in the governance of COHSASA and promote its considerable and unique intellectual property. I have 30 years' experience working and training in the administration and management of health services and I firmly believe that quality saves money," he says.
