Africa' top business school goes on show in Johannesburg

UCT GSB to host admission information session in Sandton this August

The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB), Africa's top business school will be in Johannesburg to connect with potential students during an admissions information session on 19 August.

The session, held at the Protea Hotel Balalaika in Sandton will give students an opportunity to learn more about the various programmes on offer at the GSB.

The school is widely acclaimed for its emerging market focus and international stature. Its full-time MBA is the only one in Africa to be ranked in the Financial Times GlobalTop100 and it is one of just 60 business schools world-wide to be triple-crown accredited, boasting accreditation from the world's top three accreditation bodies: the Association to Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business, the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Foundation for Management Development, which awards the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation.

GSB director, professor Walter Baets, says the school is working to raise the profile of emerging market business schools as centres of excellence, while focusing on specific skills needed to deal with the challenges of managing today's complex business world.

Baets, who is also the chairperson of the Association of African Business School believes in creating an Africa-appropriate centre of learning says: "We don't need Harvard in Africa. We need an African centre of learning for African business and thought leaders, with a focus of building Africa as a global contender in business."

The GSB attract students from all over the world, but Baets says it is eager to increase the number of African scholars studying at the school.

"African students will bring additional vitality to our emerging market focus," he says.

The admission information session will showcase the top ranked MBA, the executive MBA, the MCom Development Finance and the Masters in Inclusive Innovation. All degrees are offered on a modular basis making it easier for students to work and study at the same time. The MBA is also offered full-time.

"We have been placed firmly on the map on a global level. But our information sessions also give us the opportunity to let potential students get to know us locally," Baets says.

Registration starts at 5.30pm and ends at 6pm, followed by the information session, which is scheduled to start at 6pm and end at 8pm
