Andrea Mullineux named Cape Winemakers Guild chairperson

The Cape Winemakers Guild has elected award-winning Andrea Mullineux as its new chairperson. Along with a committee of some of the country's most acclaimed winemakers, Mullineux will continue the vision of the guild to bring further transformation in the industry, as well as showcase the very best of South African winemaking.

Mullineux comes with great experience in producing some of South Africa's best wines and holds a multitude of achievements as a winemaker. Her winery is the first to win the title of Platter's Winery of the Year four times and Mullineux is also the first South African winemaker to be named International Winemaker of The Year by Wine Enthusiast.

Mullineux takes over from Boela Gerber, acclaimed cellar master at Groot Constantia.

Joining her on the committee is:

•Vice-chairperson Gordon Newton Johnson, who brings a wealth of business experience and knowledge to the committee.
•Treasurer David Nieuwoudt, whose strength lies in negotiations and understanding of the financial implications of running a successful business.
•Cellarmaster Sebastian Beaumont, who possesses a vast knowledge of top local and international wines and has great organisational skills required to set and manage technical tastings and the auction selection tasting.
•"Guardian of the Guild" Carl Schulz, who advises in respect of direction and broad strategy, serves as an advisor to the committee of the guild and previously chaired the guild in 1999 and 2000.
