Foremost health quality and safety conference for Cape Town
As better methods for providing safe and efficient health service delivery occupy much of the political debate in South Africa - and around the world - but particularly as it concerns the proposed introduction of NHI, it is timely that the world's largest conference on such matters will be in Cape Town next week from 20 to 23 October 2019.
The International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), in partnership with The Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA) and Mediclinic International, is delighted to host its 36th International Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
The theme for this year's conference is "Innovate, Implement, Improve: Beating the Drum for Safety, Quality and Equity". This theme embodies the African culture of inspiring great innovation using creative thinking, and progressive developments using technology. Africa is a continent of colour, energy and vibrancy.
Each year the ISQua conference attracts more than 1,200 healthcare professionals from over 80 countries. This year features 400 speakers from 40 countries in 250 sessions. These leaders will share their real-world experiences and insights including lessons learned from recent healthcare crises, reducing hospital mortality, digital health technologies, eHealth, and patient engagement. ISQua’s conferences cover the topics that matter most to the healthcare industry and allows for like-minded individuals across the world to collectively understand how they can impact and improve healthcare safety and quality.
Key speakers scheduled include Albert W. Wu, Professor of Health Policy & Management at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA; Professor Laetitia Rispel, DST/NRF SARChI Research Chair on the Health Workforce, School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg; Dr Rolene Wagner, Medical Director: Primary Care Division, Netcare; and Zanele Vayeke the first black female helicopter commander in the South African National Defence Force; to name a few.
ISQua’s CEO, Dr Peter Lachman M.D. MPH. M.B.B.Ch., FRCPCH, FCP (SA), FRCPI, is delighted to bring the conference to Africa, stating, “ISQua’s 36th International Conference will be held, for the first time, on the African continent, in South Africa, in my adopted home town of Cape Town. I look forward to highlighting Africa’s developments and innovations on ISQua’s international stage.”
COHSASA’s CEO, Co-host of the conference, Jacqui Stewart, said: "We have waited many years for ISQua to come to African shores and now that it is happening, we look forward to sharing with the rest of the world some of the achievements of our continent in the field of quality improvement and showcasing the wonderful city of Cape Town.”
