About us

Hello! We’re Henry and Nina, and together with our fantastic team, we run Caterpillar Captions. As part of our work, we lead a social awareness campaign called Switch On | Read On, which encourages parents and teachers to turn on subtitles for children's TV to improve literacy.

We believe literacy is a right, not a privilege, and we are on a mission to improve the literacy of one billion children by 31 December 2027. Our campaign works closely with celebrities and influencers, and we are looking for someone to lead this initiative—starting in Hollywood, USA, while also running campaigns in South Africa, Kenya, and expanding to other African countries within the next year.

Position overview

We are looking for a celebrity and influencer engagement lead to help run our campaign across multiple countries, starting with the US and South Africa. This role is key in increasing brand visibility among teachers in the US and parents in South Africa by leveraging social media, conferences, and celebrity endorsements.

You will be responsible for identifying and engaging influencers and celebrities, reaching out to key stakeholders, managing ongoing relationships, and contributing creative ideas to help us reach teachers at scale.

Key responsibilities

Celebrity engagement

  • Develop a shortlist of celebrities from our database and approach them via their agents, managers, and publicists.
  • Manage follow-ups and ongoing communications, keeping track of all engagements in our Monday.com database.
  • Collaborate with our team to craft compelling outreach messages.

Teacher influencer engagement

  • Research and identify teacher influencers in the US.
  • Build a long list of potential influencers and initiate engagement.
  • Obtain rate cards and manage content creation requests.

Additional responsibilities

  • Research conferences where we can reach teachers effectively.
  • Identify key online spaces where teachers engage on social media.
  • Assist with minor administrative tasks as needed.
  • Contribute creative ideas for reaching teachers at scale on a small budget.

Ideal candidate profile

  • Super organised – able to manage a large portfolio of influencers and track follow-ups.
  • Independent worker – capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Social media savvy – experienced with various social media platforms and engagement strategies.
  • Excellent communicator – strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter – able to work without micromanagement and take initiative.
  • Persistent and proactive – comfortable chasing and cajoling busy influencers and celebrities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Experience using social media professionally.
  • Proven ability to stay organised and follow structured processes.
  • Must have access to a laptop, phone, and broadband (let us know if this is a dealbreaker).
