Purpose of the position:

The junior finance manager will play a crucial role in the financial operations of the company, reporting directly to the finance manager. This position involves a wide range of accounting responsibilities, from day-to-day financial management to supporting the preparation of annual financial statements. Additionally, the role requires strategic financial oversight, ensuring cost control, and partnering with key business functions such as Operations and Marketing to drive overall business performance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Financial management and compliance
    • Review and oversee all cashbook journal entries.
    • Manage all day-to-day financial requirements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
    • Support the finance manager in monitoring daily cash balances and determining cash requirements.
    • Assist in budgeting, processing, and the preparation of financial statements.
    • Handle bank administration, including new account setups and managing user lists.
    • Load ad hoc payments, intercompany transfers, and wages & salary transfers.
    • Manage staff reimbursements, petty cash, and company credit cards.
    • Oversee the accounts of multiple entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
    • Process general ledger (GL) activities and journals (e.g., company credit cards, staff reimbursements).
    • Maintain fixed assets and perform forex revaluations.
    • Prepare SARS VAT201 and EMP501 submissions.
    • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Manage intercompany reconciliations and month-end journal preparations.
    • Assist in preparing annual financial statements and processing foreign payments.
    • Provide support during audits, including responding to requests and facilitating the audit process.
  • Strategic finance and cost management
    • Work closely with senior management to analyse financial data and provide insights that drive business strategy.
    • Implement financial controls and cost-saving initiatives to improve profitability.
    • Support in financial modelling and forecasting to aid strategic decision-making.
    • Identify opportunities to optimize costs across different departments, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Business partnership and cross-functional collaboration
    • Partner with the operations team to improve supply chain efficiencies and cost controls.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure financial accountability on campaigns and promotions, maximizing ROI.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business growth and expansion initiatives.
    • Ensure that finance is integrated into all key decision-making processes across the business.
  • People leadership and development
    • Mentor junior accountants, fostering their professional development.
    • Support a culture of continuous learning and financial acumen across departments.

Qualification requirements:
  • Completed articles and eligible to register as a CA(SA)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Fully computer literate, with proficiency in accounting software and tools.
