Kids shows promise smiles galoreFor kids, the Showtime Stage presents lunchtime entertainment with those beloved characters from kykNET’s Kowee channel, Tjiff and Tjaff. There’s also singing and dancing with the flamboyant Clarice and the Rainbow Kidz, and barrels of laughs with Ollie the Clown. Braai with the celebsJoin stars of 7de Laan, Binnelanders, Gold Diggers and Getroud Met Rugby, on both Saturdays, 15 and 22 April), from 2pm-4pm, as they poke the coals and check the wors in the always-entertaining Jimmy’s Steakhouse Sauce Celeb Braai Competition. Giants doing battleThe powerful men and women of the weight-lifting world will be impressing Rand Show visitors with their displays of strength. On Friday, 14 April, local strongwomen will compete for the title of SA’s Strongest Woman 2017, beginning at 10am in front of the Showtime Stage before moving into the Let’s Play sports hall, Hall 5, at noon. On 15 and 16 April 2017, international and local strongmen will be competing in the prestigious Strongman Champions League U/105 kg qualifier, kicking off at 10am in front of the Showtime Stage before moving indoors to Hall 5. The SA’s Strongest Man final for 2017 takes place on the Rand Show’s closing weekend (22 to 23 April). Like the strength competitions the previous weekend, this clash of the local titans will open in front of the Showtime Stage at 10am on the Saturday and 9am on the Sunday, before moving indoors to the Let’s Play sports hall. Hunting for talentContestants in the Rand Show’s talent contest, MiTalent, will be hoping to sing, dance and joke their way into a place in the finals, where big cash prizes and Fujifilm Instax cameras are up for grabs. From 10am to 12pm on 17-21 April, shortlisted contestants will get their moment in the spotlight as they entertain Rand Show visitors on the Showtime Stage. The finals take place at 11am on Sunday, 23 April. Mr and Miss Rand Show 2017The contestants of Mr and Miss Rand Show will strut their stuff on the Showtime Stage on the final day of the Rand Show. From 12pm on Sunday, 23 April, there’ll be a whole lot of glamour on the stage, as the beautiful girls and guys hit the runway in their best evening wear. Come and see who’ll walk off with the crown and other great prizes at 5pm, when the grand prize-giving takes place. All these great variety performances and shows are just part of the line-up of top-class entertainment at this year’s Rand Show. When, where, how much?The Rand Show runs from Friday, 14 April, to Sunday, 23 April 2017, from 9am to 7pm (last entry at 6pm), at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec (GPS – S26°14.484’ E27°58.510). There is ample secure paid parking at the venue, with visible policing. Rand Show tickets at the gate cost R150 for adults, R50 for pensioners, R50 for 13-16 years, R20 for 6-12 years, and under six enter free. Midweek specials for Tuesday, 18, Wednesday, 19, and Thursday, 20 April, only are R75 for adults, and R20 for 13- to 16-year-olds. Open-air parking is R20 per car. Tickets are available at the gate or through Computicket. Tickets give access to a wide variety of entertainment attractions, but exclude rides on the helicopter and monorail, drifting, bagjumping, the fun fair, and refreshments and food.
